Through our Environmental, Health and Safety Committee, Mercer proudly sets forth its EH&S Policy.

• We will employ processes and procedures in our everyday operations that minimize environmental impact and comply with, and where possible exceed, regulatory and legal requirements pertaining to human health, air, land and water. Should circumstances arise where the environment or safety of people is at risk, alleviation of such risks will take priority over production.
• We will conserve, reduce and recycle resources required for the production of our pulp for optimal use of energy and raw materials and disposition of waste.
• We will benchmark our performance with our industry peers and ensure our environmental and safety performance is among the best in the world.
• Our environmental policies will be clearly communicated and adhered to throughout the Company, and accountability will be assigned to management of applicable departments and functions.
• It is Mercer management’s firm commitment to make every effort to protect its employees’ safety and health through prevention and proper working procedures. We will readily make available resources for training and updating of skills to ensure that safety of employees is the first consideration in our operations. We will ensure that knowledge and continuing education contribute to a workplace that values the well-being of our workers.
• Measurable goals will be set in support of Mercer’s environmental, health and safety policy, with continuous improvement as the guiding principle, and we will assess our performance annually.
• We will work with our suppliers and partners to achieve and maintain certified forest management systems in each country where we operate.
• We expect our suppliers to adhere to the same strict environmental policies, and we will work together with them to improve their environmental performance.
• We will engage in proactive dialogues with the communities where we operate to ensure transparency and that environmental and social concerns of these communities are addressed. We will also recognize and respect the unique cultural values that define the international stage on which we do business.
• We will maintain an open dialogue with our stakeholders (Board of Directors, employees, customers, suppliers,shareholders, communities in which we operate) to address concerns and identify opportunities to improve existing practices, processes and protocols.
• We will regularly communicate our Environmental, Health and Safety performance to our Board of Directors, shareholders, employees, customers and other interested stakeholders.
